3 Interviews: From Mom, With Love.
Us women wear many names throughout our lives, throughout the years, and even days. We’re women, we’re daughters, wives, mothers, and grandmothers. So for Mother’s Day, a special holiday that celebrates one of our many titles, we’ve taken a moment to appreciate the mothers around us. We’ve interviewed three of our friends near and far to hear about their role as mothers and also about their own mothers.
Interview With Dinah (@dinah5775)
Dinah is a strong, bright mother of two daughters. We were inspired by her beautiful photos on Instagram and couldn’t resist asking her our questions!
Q: What does family mean for you?
A: For me, family is life. The love created within my family radiates positive energy and strength needed to get through the toughest times. My family is my foundation. We are just better together 😊
Q: As a mom, what are you most proud of?
A: I’m most proud of overcoming the stigma attached to teenage pregnancy. My husband and I were only 18 when our first daughter was born. Thanks to the help of both our families, we were able to finish post-secondary education, which gave us greater career opportunities. We were able to ride the waves because of family. It was difficult, but I believe most things worth fighting for are. I guess, simply put, I’m proud of my ability to overcome adversity — the resilience we had as young scared teenage parents to make it through, even when we felt broken.
Q: What did you learn about yourself as a mom?
A: As a mom, I was able to discover who I am and what I wanted to strive for in life. I wanted to be a provider of all things for my children.
Q: What do you appreciate the most about your mom?
A: Her constant selflessness. She is always there, no matter what.
Q: What are your favourite memories with your mom?
A: My favourite memories with her are our Saturday movie nights with popcorn! We did this every Saturday night when I was a kid. It was one of my favourite traditions.
Q: What are your favourite moments with your children?
A: They are usually the simple things, like watching their faces light up when I ask them about their day during dinner, reading their favourite books, road trips. But the thing I love the most is teaching them and watching their reactions when they learn something new 😊
Interview with Myriam
Easy-going, compassionate, and driven, Myriam is a mother of one beautiful daughter and our Public Relations Specialist here at Reitmans!
Q: What does family mean for you?
A: Getting to share a home, a life, your happiness with the people that you love the most in the world.
Q: As a mom, what are you most proud of?
A: How happy, talkative and comfortable in her skin my daughter seems every day.
Q: What did you learn about yourself as a mom?
A: I learnt how patient I can be, and also how patience is something you have to continue to work on, all the time.
Q: What do you appreciate the most about your mom?
A: I appreciate that she has enough faith in me to let me forge my own path and make my own decisions.
Q: What are your favourite memories with your mom?
A: Going on road trips to the beach (and stopping at McDonald’s along the way)!
Q: What are your favourite moments with your daughter?
A: There are too many to list! Seeing her face light up as she runs into my arms when I pick her up at daycare, sunny weekends spent at the park, when she tells me all about her day.
Interview With Valérie
Meet Valérie, our very own Vice President of Marketing. She is today’s confident, open-minded, and positive #GirlBoss and a mother of an 11-year-old son.
Q: What does family mean for you?
A: Family, to me, is my happy place. It’s a place where we can be together and accept each other. So it’s very comforting, it’s my safe haven.
Q: As a mom, what are you most proud of?
A: I’m most proud to see my son beaming, balanced, kind, and curious. We just went on a trip to India. To see him interested in others and open to a new culture was a very proud moment for me.
Q: What did you learn about yourself as a mom?
A: I learnt that taking time for yourself and not forget oneself is an essential part of being a “good mom”. It could be as simple as going for a run or a yoga class. As a mother, it’s just as important to flourish and be mindful of yourself in order to be at your best with your family.
Q: What do you appreciate the most about your mom?
A: When I was 17 years old, I moved from France to Canada to continue my studies. I didn’t know a single person here. Even thousands of miles away, my mother knew that I would be serious and succeed. We never talked about it directly, but that proved to me that she trusted me.
Q: What are your favourite memories with your mom?
A: Up until when I was 15 years old, I would do piano concerts every year at my music school. Then for the occasion, my mom would always bring me shopping for a new piece of clothing or a new outfit so that I’ll feel beautiful and confident during the concert. She would do this to help me feel less nervous and it did! My passion for fashion certainly started at that moment.
Q: What are your favourite moments with your son?
A: It’s definitely when I travel with my son every year. It’s such a big gift to be able to witness him build his own personality and to discover the wonders of the world with him. It’s a big gift!
