You Can Do It: From Closet Anguish to Closet Bliss
Did you know? 85% of women admit that picking the right outfit is important to them, yet most experience some woes as they face their closet, wondering: “What will I wear?!” We call it our moment of truth and we, at Reitmans, have made it our mission to make the decision-making as easy as 1-2-3 with a simple Need. Want. Love. approach. (You can read more about it on our website). But what good is a great strategy for creating a perfect outfit if the items you need, want and love are nowhere to be found? It’s time to address the messy subject of closet organization.
Out with the old
You know it, I know it, we all know it… but do we do it? Whether it’s clinging to favourite old jeans or to the idea that we’ll get back to that size 2 dress or that we’ll mend that missing button, the truth is we hold on to a lot of baggage in the form of clothing. If you haven’t worn something in a while or if you keep picking it up but never end up wearing it, chances are it’s time to discard or donate it. So set yourself a rule of thumb you are comfortable with, whether it’s 2 months or 2 years, and stick to it. And don’t forget to store away out-of-season items that you plan to wear again so that your premium closet space is dedicated to what is relevant now.
Better known as What You See Is What You Get: If you can’t see it (or find it), you can’t wear it. There is nothing worse than looking for that pretty top or that perfect cami and it’s hidden under a cardigan or under a pile of options you tried and discarded yesterday. Clutter is your enemy. Some even say that a cluttered space hinders our ability to think clearly. Eliminating clutter is much easier if you know where everything goes, so organize your clothes into logical categories that work for you. It also helps greatly if your space is well divided, and there are a ton of DIY or ready-made space-saving solutions out there, not to mention professional closet organizers who will transform your space, no matter how small, into a dream.
In with the new
Finally, we get to the good stuff. Now that we’re organized, we’ve made room for pretty new things that will give us lots of fun options to choose from as we apply our Need. Want. Love strategy. Think of it as a reward for mastering the demon of procrastination. You deserve it. How neat is that?
