Trend Alert : The Chino

The chino, made of a comfortable, lightweight fabric, is a perfect alternative for jeans. It’s quickly become a wardrobe essential that’s ideal to wear for all occasions. It’s one of our most timeless styles: wear it dressed up or down with just a few simple tweaks.

Let’s start off with a little history of one of our trendiest style. The chino originated around the mid-19th century when it was worn by the British military on duty in India. Its light colour allowed soldiers to hide well in the sand. Worn by millions of soldiers, it was a few years after the Second World War that this style was found in men’s wardrobes as a preppy staple.

Today, the fairer sex has adopted this spring essential. Below, learn how to accessorize it for work or weekend. Be warned! Once you try a pair, you won’t be able to live without them.

This super-comfortable pant is perfect for the office. Over time, chinos have expanded from standard khaki and beige into a rainbow of colours. We’re especially partial to our burgundy pair. Make these stand out by wearing them with a white blouse. Opt for something more structured, such as a poplin blouse with fun sleeve details to add a little volume to your upper half, all while giving your style some attitude. Finish off your look with your favourite pair of heels and pendant earrings. Feel a cool breeze? A flowery scarf adds a little feminine touch to your look.

Weekend Style

Our classic khaki chinos are without a doubt a classic! They pair so perfectly with a printed floral blouse for a look that’s as pretty as can be. Give these chinos a personal touch by adding on a floral scarf as a belt. Just tie it around your waist to add a little je-ne-sais-quoi to your look.

Warm weather right around the corner? Make your style shine with an off-shoulder top. For the final touch, add pastel-hued shoes and bag and a pretty pink and gold bracelet watch that maches the delicate tones of your blouse.

Prints, Please!

Subtle prints are taking over this season and lilac is one of the most trending colours. So, why not mix our two favourite trends? Our chino with a lilac base and a delicate print brings some freshness and femininity to your spring wardrobe. For chilly days, wear your chino with a simple t-shirt and jean jacket over top for a casual look. To up the sophistication, satin mules elevate your look. Or opt for espadrilles and faux-leather bracelets for a perfectly relaxed vibe.

Since this spring staple is so versatile, it’s a great idea to try different styles and pairings (because you can never have too many!), like our blue chinos with a chevron print. Pair them with a t-shirt and cardi for an outfit that’s ready to go in no time.

I wear my khaki chinos to death every year. Love them! I also bought the pink last year but wore seldom. Other than white, what colours pair best with in the darker pink of spring 2017? I think I need those burgundy ones, too.
