How to Wear Ankle Pants for Day, Night and Beyond

05 Mar

Ankle-length pants are a new must-have for spring. Versatile and stylish, they can go from desk to drinks — and beyond — with ease. Here are three ways to wear them now, and straight through the season.

Ankle pants are a great way to breathe new life into your work basics and make your favourite Monday-to-Friday outfits feel fresh. They’re the perfect alternative to a pair of classic trousers, plus their sleek proportion (think slim and slightly cropped) is surprisingly easy to wear.

Wear them with:

– A matching jacket for the 2018 version of the pantsuit. A jacket and pants in the same shade is always a winning combination.

– A contrasting topper. Pair brightly coloured pants with a crisp white shirt and a black tailored jacket for maximum impact.

– A shirt, if you don’t need to wear a jacket to work. Similar colours make for a polished match. You can also opt for a sweater if you’re looking to create a more casual vibe.

The final touch

Something ankle pants do best is show off your shoes, so be sure to pick a trendy yet work-appropriate style, such as a block-heel pump.

Getting ready for a date or an evening with the girls? Give your go-to denim the night off and put on a pair of ankle pants instead. They’re a refreshing alternative to your “been there, seen those” jeans — just as cool but more of-the-moment.

Wear them with:

– A boxy-fit top or one with billowy sleeves. The volume will contrast nicely with the pants’ narrow cut. If you choose bright-hued ankle pants, opt for a black top and let the pants be the star!

– A striped top and bold jacket. Black ankle-pants are a true essential and work with any shade. Better still, the black-and-pink colour mix is trending this spring.

Simply add

Classic pumps are back, which is great news for fans of slender high heels. Neutrals such as black, navy and tan are always versatile options, but you can also rock a colour-blocked look by pairing bright pumps with a pair of pants in a contrasting shade. When in doubt, bold shoes are always a standout match for black pants, too.

Off Duty

Enjoy the weekend with a laid-back look built around ankle pants. Their slightly cropped fit is a great starting point for casual yet stylish outfits, especially when you choose a neutral, wear-with-anything shade.

Wear them with:

– A lightweight striped knit. Neutral combinations are in, so embrace a chic and minimalist mix of black, cream and grey.

– A simple t-shirt and sporty anorak for an athleisure take that’s right on trend.

A fun accent

Menswear-inspired shoes with a low, chunky heel will add some boyish charm, making them a great choice for cropped pants. On the go? Pair your ankle pants with sneakers and give your favourite leggings a break.

Boy I can’t stand ankle pants. They’re only good if you stand all day and wear cute high heel shoes. If you sit st a desk you look ridiculous and your ankles are cold all day.
